Rev. Charles R. Williams was born in Indianapolis, IN where he spent the majority of his childhood. He attended Crispus Attucks High School until moving with his family to Chicago and soon after joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war.

Heavily influenced by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rev. Williams worked closely with the Indianapolis Chapter of Operation PUSH and earned local and national recognition after coordinating a national convention for the NAACP. In 1980, Rev Williams ascended to the leadership of Indiana Black Expo, Inc., the largest of its kind in America.

Recognized extensively for his contributions to Indianapolis and Indiana, Rev. Williams served as a role model and mentor for numerous young people throughout his life.

How to Apply

All interested students should fill out the following application.  Additionally, students must send a current “Official” high school transcript and a copy of student’s FAFSA Student Aid Report Summary or copy of parent’s previous W-2 addressed to:

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the Rev. Charles R. Williams Youth Philanthropy Scholarship Award, the student must:

- Be a Marion County high school senior planning to enroll in a fulltime undergraduate course of study at an accredited post-secondary institution.

- Have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

- Submit one letter of recommendation from a school official from your current high school.

- Submit a 500-word, typed essay addressing the topic “Rev. Williams’ contributions to the community and how I am using my gifts to give back?”

 

Awards

If selected, the student will receive a $500.00 scholarship.  Scholarships are paid in one installment and paid directly to the post-secondary institution upon proof of enrollment.  Recipients who fail to enroll in the Fall Semester will forfeit their scholarship award.
